Sweden’s newest advanced AI venture, Sferical AI, has officially launched, backed by Ericsson and a consortium of major Swedish companies including AstraZeneca, Saab, SEB and Wallenberg Investments.
Headquartered in Linköping, Southern Sweden, Sferical AI will provide partners with world-class computing power on a sovereign and secure infrastructure, aimed at boosting both enterprise-level innovation and the country’s overall competitiveness in artificial intelligence.
The initiative stems from a collaboration announced in May by Wallenberg Investments President Marcus Wallenberg and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. Marcus Wallenberg emphasized its strategic significance, saying: “Through this initiative, we create the opportunity for some of Sweden’s leading companies to position themselves at the forefront of the rapid structural transformation of the business landscape brought about by the development and use of AI.”
Jenny Nordlöw has been appointed CEO, with renowned researcher Anders Ynnerman serving as Executive Chairman. Nordlöw says, “I look forward to, together with our partners, establishing the next generation of AI infrastructure in Sweden and strengthening the competitiveness of Swedish industry.”
Ericsson’s Chief Technology Officer Erik Ekudden adds that the company is eager to collaborate through Sferical AI to “develop, deliver and operate advanced and complex AI to drive Swedish competitiveness – at both individual partner enterprise and national economy levels.”
