Sanofi has expanded its collaboration with Owkin through a new multi-year agreement focused on developing AI-powered agents designed to support drug research and development.
The partnership includes a five-year license for Owkin’s AI Scientist platform, K Pro, and builds on an existing relationship that began in 2021 with a €90 million collaboration centered on oncology target identification and patient stratification. The companies later broadened their work to include drug positioning within Sanofi’s immunology pipeline.
Under the latest agreement, Owkin will develop specialized biopharma AI agents tailored to Sanofi’s needs. These agentic systems are designed to autonomously perform complex research and development tasks and will be integrated into Sanofi’s workflows through the K Pro platform.
K Pro combines multimodal patient data with biological AI systems to support activities across the pharmaceutical value chain, from early-stage discovery to clinical development. The platform is also designed to provide competitive intelligence and help accelerate decision-making.
Emmanuel Frenehard, EVP and Chief Digital Officer at Sanofi, said the company continues to invest in advanced AI technologies that can improve decision-making throughout the drug development process.
“Across Sanofi, we are continually investing in frontier AI solutions with the potential to accelerate and improve decision-making throughout the drug development lifecycle,” Frenehard said. “By implementing purpose-built agentic systems into our workflows, we aim to empower our teams to operate with greater speed, depth, and confidence as we continue to work to deliver transformative outcomes for patients.”
