Roche and IBM have unveiled the Accu-Chek SmartGuide Predict app, an AI-enabled solution aimed at helping people with diabetes better manage their condition. Developed through a cross-industry collaboration, the app combines Roche’s glucose monitoring technology with IBM’s AI expertise to provide predictive insights and personalized support.

The app, which pairs with Roche’s continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor, uses real-time data and machine learning algorithms to forecast glucose levels, detect potential hypoglycemic events up to 30 minutes in advance and offer nighttime alerts to reduce the risk of nocturnal lows.

Launched in Switzerland earlier this year, the app is among the innovations to be showcased at the Swiss Economic Forum in Interlaken on June 5–6. It marks a significant step in using AI to address the everyday challenges of diabetes management, including fear of hypoglycemia and the burden of constant monitoring.

In parallel, the companies developed a custom AI tool using IBM’s watsonx platform to accelerate analysis of clinical study data. The tool digitizes and categorizes anonymized patient data, improving research efficiency and uncovering patterns that link glucose trends with daily activities.
