PayPal has entered into a partnership with OpenAI that will allow ChatGPT users to buy products directly using the PayPal wallet, marking a major move into AI-driven commerce.
The deal connects PayPal’s vast global merchant network with ChatGPT’s user base, enabling seamless “chat-to-checkout” transactions within the AI platform. “By partnering with OpenAI and adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol, PayPal will power payments and commerce experiences that help people go from chat to checkout in just a few taps,” said Alex Chriss, PayPal’s CEO.
Alongside the partnership, PayPal raised its full-year financial outlook and declared its first-ever dividend in its 27-year history, a clear signal of confidence in its cash flow and long-term profitability.
The collaboration positions PayPal at the forefront of a new era of AI-driven retail, where autonomous digital assistants can research, compare, and complete purchases on behalf of consumers.
