The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) has issued new guidance to Federal agencies on implementing President Donald Trump’s executive order on “Restoring Gold Standard Science”.
The memo, delivered by OSTP Director Michael Kratsios on June 23, outlines steps to ensure scientific research remains objective, reproducible, and free from political manipulation.
Key recommendations include automating data collection, using public data repositories, standardizing metadata formats, and deploying interoperable data-sharing platforms.
The guidance encourages agencies to make raw data and code publicly accessible, require grant applicants to submit data-sharing plans, and promote team science through shared digital workspaces and collaboration tools.
“To enhance efficiency, agencies should explore the use of artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies for implementing Gold Standard Science, such as automated tools for validating reproducible protocols, standardizing transparent data reporting, quantifying uncertainty, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration, detecting biases in peer and merit review, and managing conflict-of-interest disclosures,” the memo reads.
Federal agencies are required to submit their implementation plans to OSTP within 60 days.
