Meta is preparing to invest tens of millions of dollars in a new California political arm aimed at boosting candidates who favor light-touch regulation of technology, particularly artificial intelligence.
The super PAC, called Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across (Meta) California, will support candidates for state office across party lines who prioritize innovation over stringent rules. The move positions Meta among the state’s most powerful political spenders ahead of the 2026 governor’s race.
“Sacramento’s regulatory environment could stifle innovation, block AI progress, and put California’s technology leadership at risk,” says Brian Rice, Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy, who will lead the PAC alongside fellow executive Greg Maurer. “This is why we are launching a California super PAC.”
The move comes as Silicon Valley companies ramp up their political presence in Sacramento. Airbnb, for example, injected $15 million into its California PAC this year, while a new AI-focused super PAC network, Leading the Future, launched this week with over $100 million from backers including Andreessen Horowitz, OpenAI president Greg Brockman, and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale.
