Mastercard has introduced its AI-powered Agent Pay technology in the UAE, marking the first transaction completed outside the United States and positioning the country at the forefront of next-generation, AI-driven commerce.
As part of the UAE pilot, Mastercard is partnering with Majid Al Futtaim and fintech Dataiera to bring autonomous, AI-assisted payments into real customer experiences. When fully rolled out, cardholders will be able to use AI agents to search, discover, and complete transactions through Agent Pay — including booking VOX Cinemas tickets seamlessly.
Dimitrios Dosis, President for Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Mastercard, said Agent Pay is designed to ensure that AI-driven shopping is built on “transparency, consent, and security,” supporting consumer trust as agentic commerce accelerates worldwide.
Majid Al Futtaim CEO Ahmed Galal Ismail highlighted the collaboration as a step toward responsible AI adoption in retail, adding that the initiative will help redefine how people “shop, pay, and engage in a connected world.”
The launch builds on Mastercard’s long-standing partnership with the UAE government, including the establishment of the Mastercard Center for Advanced AI and Cyber Technology in Dubai in 2023 — a move that strengthened the UAE’s position as a global innovation hub.
