Lightspeed Commerce Launches AI-Powered Automation To Help Retailers Eliminate Manual Inventory Entry (CNW Group/Lightspeed Commerce Inc.)
Lightspeed Commerce has launched a new AI-powered automation tool aimed at helping retailers improve inventory accuracy and reduce sales lost to stock mismatches.
The new feature uses optical character recognition, paired with artificial intelligence, to digitize one of retail’s most manual back-office tasks: receiving inventory. Retailers can scan or upload supplier packing slips or invoices, and the system pulls details such as SKUs, quantities, prices, and product variants into a draft purchase order inside the point-of-sale system.
Instead of entering items line by line, store teams can review and approve the information, speeding up the receiving process and reducing the risk of duplicate products, pricing errors, and incorrect stock counts.
“Receiving inventory has historically been a time-consuming and error-prone process for retailers,” said Dax Dasilva, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lightspeed. “Instead of spending hours typing in line items, merchants can now use the power of AI to automate the process, reduce costly mistakes, and focus more time on serving customers and growing their business.”
Lightspeed said the tool also matches incoming information against existing catalog records to validate entries before inventory is finalized. Users can make adjustments, approve updates, or export the data for bulk edits.
The feature is built directly into Lightspeed Retail and the Lightspeed Scanner app, allowing teams to use it from scanners, tablets, or desktops without additional integrations. The company said the AI OCR capability is currently available in beta for select customers, with broader rollout planned for spring 2026.
