India and South Korea have strengthened bilateral ties with the signing of multiple agreements, including a new digital initiative aimed at expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
The announcements followed talks in New Delhi between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. Alongside agreements covering sports, cultural industries, small and medium enterprises, and industrial cooperation, both sides unveiled the India-Korea Digital Bridge to deepen collaboration in AI, semiconductors, and information technology.
Prime Minister Modi said the initiative marks a shift toward a more forward-looking partnership between the two countries.
He said India and Korea are working to strengthen cooperation across sectors “from chips to ships, talent to technology, and entertainment to energy,” while aiming to scale bilateral trade from $27 billion to $50 billion by 2030.
In his remarks, President Lee highlighted opportunities to expand collaboration in defense, AI, and shipbuilding and described India as an emerging leader in the global South.
Both leaders emphasized shared democratic values and a common outlook on the Indo-Pacific region, while also reaffirming their commitment to peace and stability amid global uncertainties.
The visit, the first by a South Korean president to India in eight years, also included discussions on resuming negotiations to upgrade the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and expanding digital and economic cooperation frameworks.
