Global furniture retailer IKEA has introduced an AI-driven home design and shopping tool, exclusively accessible through the OpenAI GPT Store, targeting the US market. The initiative aims to democratize planning services, offering users personalized furniture and decor suggestions based on factors like room dimensions, personal style, sustainability preferences, budget, and functional requirements.
“We are taking a pragmatic, execution-focused approach, learning by doing and capitalizing on our early efforts of a Responsible AI framework. We activated a broad ecosystem of partners to bring to life several experiments so that we can take part in the AI evolution as we shape our company strategy,’’ said Francesco Marzoni, Chief Data and Analytics Officer, IKEA.
The IKEA AI Assistant on GPT Store allows users to express specific home design needs using GPT, receiving tailored recommendations. Users can explore Ikea's extensive catalog, spanning minimalist to artistic designs, and check product availability across various locations. Additionally, they can draw inspiration from design ideas, real-life home transformations in the global Ikea community, and tips from furnishing experts.
The company collaborates with a broad ecosystem of partners to conduct experiments and actively participates in the evolving landscape of AI, aligning with its company strategy.
Presently, the IKEA AI Assistant is exclusively available to GPT Plus users in the US, with plans to expand to other markets where ChatGPT is accessible in the coming year. This marks a continuous effort by Ikea to engage with customers, gather feedback, and refine their AI-driven offerings for a more enriching retail experience.
‘’The new IKEA AI Assistant on GPT Stores is an ongoing initiative, and the continuation of a journey that looks to enrich the retail experience and explore additional avenues to interact with our customers and coworkers, as they help us improve and develop further,” said Parag Parekh, Global Chief Digital Officer, IKEA.
