HCLTech and Anthropic on October 12 announced a Global Premier Partnership to accelerate enterprise adoption of agentic AI, with a focus on safety, cybersecurity and governance, according to an HCLTech press release.
Under the partnership, HCLTech will establish a dedicated Anthropic Business Unit and Center of Excellence to build agentic AI solutions, provide secure sandbox environments for enterprise deployments of Claude, and help clients adopt AI-native engineering practices and train their workforces.
HCLTech’s services teams will build industry-specific solutions powered by Claude, Cowork and Claude Code, while HCLSoftware will embed those tools into selected enterprise products.
HCLTech will also integrate Claude and Claude Code into its AI Force agentic software engineering platform for use cases including IT support, code remediation and digital employee services.
The companies aim to help organizations scale AI agents safely, with controls built into deployment rather than treated as a separate compliance exercise.
The partnership comes as organizations move beyond AI assistants toward agents that can carry out tasks with limited human intervention. That shift increases the importance of controlling what agents can access, which systems they can reach and what actions they are permitted to take.
HCLTech’s decision to make those controls part of its enterprise AI offering is commendable because it treats governance as an operating requirement, not an afterthought.
For chief data officers (CDOs), agentic AI creates a governance problem: an enterprise needs visibility into the data an agent can access, the systems it can reach and the actions it can take.
That requires organizations to maintain reliable inventories of AI agents and their data access, establish ownership and define controls that can be enforced as agents operate. It also makes AI governance an ongoing operational responsibility rather than a one-time approval step.
The HCLTech-Anthropic partnership signals where enterprise AI adoption is heading: autonomous systems deployed at scale, with security and accountability embedded in the operating model.
