Google is experimenting with a redesign of its iconic search homepage, testing a new “AI Mode” button in place of the long-standing “I’m Feeling Lucky” feature, the company confirmed to The Verge.

The new button links to Google’s experimental AI-powered search experience, introduced earlier this month. It’s currently being tested in the company’s lab environment and may not see a full public release, a spokesperson said.

The test comes just days ahead of Google I/O, where the tech giant is expected to unveil major updates to its AI search capabilities. The move signals Google’s growing focus on integrating generative AI into core products amid rising competition from platforms like ChatGPT.

Google has historically made minimal changes to its homepage. However, with reports of declining search usage on Safari and increasing pressure from emerging AI tools, the company appears ready to rethink even its most iconic elements.
