Google has announced three new additions to the Gemma 2 family, which was released in June this year. In an official blog, Google states that the new additions support the commitment of Gemma 2, which is built on a foundation of responsible AI, prioritizing safety and accessibility.

The three additions are:

1. Gemma 2 2B is a brand-new version of Google’s popular 2 billion (2B) parameter model, featuring built-in safety advancements and a powerful balance of performance and efficiency.

2. ShieldGemma is a suite of safety content classifier models built upon Gemma 2 to filter the input and outputs of AI models and keep the user safe.

3. Gemma Scope is a new model interpretability tool that offers unparalleled insight into the models’ inner workings.

These additions will enable researchers and developers to create safer customer experiences, gain unparalleled insights into Google’s models, and deploy powerful AI responsibly, unlocking innovative possibilities.

The search giant claims that this trio of new, “open” generative AI models is “safer,” “smaller,” and “more transparent” than most.
