Google and Airtel to Develop Cloud and GenAI Products for Indian Businesses

Indian telecom company Airtel has recently announced a long-term partnership with Google Cloud. The partnership aims to fuel the development and delivery of cloud and generative AI products to Indian businesses.

The collaboration seeks to leverage Airtel’s substantial clientele, comprising 2,000 major enterprises and a million up-and-coming businesses. The companies plan to provide AI solutions, such as generative AI, which Airtel will refine through its massive datasets.

Through this collaboration, the two companies are targeting the large and growing Indian public cloud services market, which is expected to reach $17.8 billion by 2027, according to IDC.

In addition, Airtel and Google Cloud will equip businesses with products like geospatial analytics, location intelligence for spotting trends, predictive capabilities, market assessment, site selection, risk management, and asset tracking.

Also on the horizon are voice analytics for conversational applications trained in multiple languages, marketing technology for predicting consumer behavior, conducting audience segmentation, and optimizing content creation through contextual ads.

Airtel will establish a managed service center in Pune staffed by over 300 "experts" to deliver support. The telecom giant will also leverage Google Cloud’s GenAI capabilities to transform its customer experiences and interactions across its offerings of mobile, broadband, and digital TV, and to streamline its internal processes and operations. It will extend these capabilities to its B2B customers in India and globally.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described the partnership as “a significant milestone” toward the company’s commitment to accelerate cloud and AI adoption in India.
