GE HealthCare announced a new AI Innovation Lab, an initiative designed to accelerate early-concept AI innovations within the company. The innovations include the Health Companion research project powered by agentic AI, identifying new ways to detect breast cancer and improving the quality of care for moms and babies.

Additional projects encompass researching multi-modal X-ray foundation models and helping radiologists scale mammography screenings.

These projects are part of GE HealthCare's larger AI and digital strategy. The focus is on integrating AI into medical devices, developing AI tools to improve decision-making throughout patient care, and using AI to boost outcomes and efficiency across the system.

The company’s investment in cloud technology underpins this strategy, providing the computing power to drive the development of AI at scale.

"The AI Innovation Lab lifts the curtain on the work we are undertaking at the vanguard of healthcare innovation. At GE HealthCare, we're not just developing technology—we're striving to break new ground by exploring novel ways that AI could enable healthcare,” said Dr. Taha Kass-Hout, GE HealthCare's Global Chief Science and Technology Officer.

GE HealthCare's AI and cloud research aims to transform clinicians' daily routines by developing innovations that improve diagnostic accuracy, lessen administrative tasks, and ensure each patient receives personalized, well-informed care.
