Former OpenAI Co-founder and Chief Scientist, Ilya Sutskever announced the launch of his new artificial intelligence company on June 19, a month after quitting OpenAI. As per a statement published on X, the company is called Safe Superintelligence (SSI) Inc., which claims to be “the world’s first straight-shot SSI lab, with one goal and one product: a safe superintelligence.”
Further, Daniel Levy, a former OpenAI researcher, and Daniel Gross, Co-founder of Cue, former AI lead, and former partner at Y-Combinator, will join Sutskever as Co-founders of Safe Superintelligence.
The trio expressed in a statement that safe super-intelligence is their mission, name, and entire product roadmap, calling it their “sole focus.” They assured that the team, investors, and business model are aligned and driven to achieve SSI.
Sutskever and his co-founders said in a statement that SSI’s “singular focus means no distraction by management overhead or product cycles, and our business model means safety, security, and progress are all insulated from short-term commercial pressures.”
As described on the company website, the American firm will have offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, where they have deep roots and can attract good technical talent.
