DoorDash is testing a new AI-driven social app aimed at simplifying how people discover places to eat, marking the company’s first major step beyond food delivery and into local discovery. The app, called Zesty, has launched in pilot mode in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York.
Zesty is designed to streamline restaurant discovery by replacing the need to sift through reviews, menus, or social media feeds. After signing in with a DoorDash account, users can ask an AI chatbot for personalized recommendations tailored to specific moods, locations, or occasions. Suggested prompts help guide searches, while users can also enter highly specific requests in their own words.
DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang said in a post on X that the app pulls information from sources such as DoorDash, Google Maps, and TikTok to “curate the best suggestions from the web.”
“At DoorDash, we’re always looking for new ways to help people connect with the best of their communities,” a DoorDash spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch. “We’re piloting an app called Zesty to make it easier to discover great nearby restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and more through personalized search and social sharing. We’re excited to learn from early testers as we keep shaping what local discovery can look like.”
The early rollout suggests DoorDash is exploring how AI and social features can deepen engagement with local businesses, potentially expanding its role in how consumers find and experience nearby dining spots.
