British multinational telecommunications holding company BT has chosen artificial intelligence (AI) as its armor against hackers targeting businesses. Amidst repeated attacks on companies, BT is leveraging AI capabilities to help detect and neutralize threats.

The BT Group has patented a technology that uses AI to analyze attack data, enabling companies to protect their tech infrastructure. The firm also has 725 AI-related patents and patent applications in Europe, the U.S., and China.

Bas Burger, CEO of BT’s Business division said: “We have all this data around when criminals try to attack, such as time of day, what type of attack, and we have suppliers to help us with the information... all the data we enrich, and then we have a piece of AI running across it.”

Burger further mentions using the Eagle-i technology, as it could suggest critical policies to be implemented in firewalls to ensure protection against specific future attacks.

In addition, BT utilizes AI to help detect and establish the cause of faults across its network.  Reportedly, this is helping improve fix times by finding faults that might have taken much longer to identify in the past.
