Bing has shared an early view of its new generative search experience, which is currently attending to a small percentage of user queries. Bing’s generative search amalgamates generative AI, LLMs, and SLMs with the search results page to create a dynamic response to a user’s query.

Notably, it understands the search query, reviews millions of information sources, matches content, and generates search results in a new AI-generated layout to effectively match the intent of the user’s query.

For example, if a user searches “What is a spaghetti western?” Bing shows an AI-generated experience that dives into the film subgenre, including its history and origins, top examples, and more.

The Microsoft Bing blog states, “We’ve refined our methods to optimize accuracy in Bing, applying those insights as we continue to evolve our use of LLMs in search. We are continuing to look closely at how generative search impacts traffic to publishers.”

According to early data received, the generative search experience maintains the number of clicks to websites and supports a healthy web ecosystem. Bing will also retain traditional search results while increasing the number of clickable links, such as the references in the results.

The official blog post reveals that Bing will slowly roll this out by garnering feedback, testing, and learning to create a great experience before broadening its availability.
