Apple has teamed up with AI startup Anthropic to develop a new generative AI-powered coding assistant integrated into its Xcode software, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The project, internally dubbed a “vibe-coding” platform, incorporates Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model to help Apple engineers write, edit and test code more efficiently. While the tool is currently being rolled out within Apple’s engineering teams, no decision has been made about a public release.
The new project with Anthropic is seen as a fresh attempt to modernize Apple’s development processes using large language models (LLMs).
The coding assistant includes a chat-based interface to handle code requests, UI testing and bug fixes. While Apple and Anthropic have not officially commented, the partnership signals Apple’s intent to keep pace with competitors such as OpenAI, Anysphere, and Windsurf in the fast-growing AI coding space.
