AI company Anthropic has launched a National Security and Public Sector Advisory Council, bringing together a bipartisan roster of former senators, cabinet officials, intelligence leaders, and defense experts to guide the firm’s work with the U.S. government and allied democracies.

The council will advise Anthropic on high-impact applications of artificial intelligence across cybersecurity, intelligence analysis, and scientific research, while also shaping standards for responsible use. “The council will help identify opportunities that strengthen U.S. and allied capabilities in an era of strategic competition,” the company said.

The inaugural members include former senators Roy Blunt and Jon Tester; former Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan; former CIA Deputy Director David S. Cohen; former Energy Under Secretaries Lisa Gordon-Hagerty and Jill Hruby; former NSA cybersecurity chief Dave Luber; and other senior national security officials spanning Democratic and Republican administrations.
