Anthropic has officially opened its first office in Seoul, deepening its investment in South Korea’s rapidly growing AI ecosystem and unveiling a series of partnerships spanning government, enterprise, startups, academia, and the nonprofit sector.

The expansion comes as the maker of the Claude AI assistant strengthens its presence in one of Asia’s most active AI markets, where organizations are increasingly deploying generative AI and developer-focused tools at scale.

As part of the announcement, Anthropic signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT to support the safe and responsible adoption of AI across the public sector. The collaboration will focus on AI safety, cybersecurity, and evaluating AI models in the Korean language in partnership with the Korea AI Safety Institute.

“What I see in Korea are teams who understand that innovation and safety are two sides of the same coin,” said KiYoung Choi. “Korean organizations are building with Claude to bring the benefits of AI to millions around the world. Opening an office in Seoul gives a long-term home to our work alongside the people shaping Korean leadership in AI.”

The company also highlighted expanding enterprise adoption of Claude across South Korea. NAVER Cloud has deployed Claude Code across its engineering organization, while gaming giant Nexon is using the platform to support software development for its live-service titles.

Anthropic is also extending support to the research community through a collaboration with the National AI Research Lab (NAIRL), a consortium that includes KAIST, Korea University, Yonsei University, and POSTECH. The company will provide Claude access to researchers working on AI safety, model evaluation, alignment, and frontier AI research.

Beyond commercial and academic initiatives, Anthropic said nonprofit organization Good Neighbors Korea is deploying Claude to help staff analyze program outcomes, interpret social welfare regulations, and reduce administrative workloads.

According to Anthropic, South Korea ranks among the world’s leading markets for Claude usage, with particularly strong adoption among developers and technical professionals. To support that momentum, the company has launched Claude for Startups in Korea and continues to expand its developer engagement through workshops, meetups, hackathons, and startup programs.
