Anthropic is expanding its footprint in London with plans for a new office space that can accommodate up to 800 employees, as competition intensifies among AI firms in the UK capital.
The company, which develops the Claude chatbot, currently has more than 200 staff in London. The expansion comes shortly after OpenAI announced plans to establish its first permanent office in the city.
Anthropic’s new facility will be located in London’s Knowledge Quarter, a growing hub for artificial intelligence companies that includes Google DeepMind, Meta, Synthesia, and Wayve.
“London is already one of our most important research and commercial hubs outside the US, and our expansion in the Knowledge Quarter gives us room to grow into,” said Pip White, Anthropic’s head of EMEA North. “The UK combines ambitious enterprises and institutions that understand what’s at stake with AI safety with an exceptional pool of AI talent—we want to be where all of that comes together.”
The move follows efforts by UK officials to attract the company amid broader competition for AI investment and talent.
Anthropic has recently gained traction with new product releases, including its coding-focused tool Claude Code and the Mythos AI model, designed to identify vulnerabilities in software.
The company also raised significant funding earlier this year, reflecting growing investor interest as AI firms scale operations globally.
