Amazon’s AI-powered shopping assistant, ‘Rufus,’ is now live for all U.S. customers. The AI-assistant is designed to help customers find products, perform product comparisons and get recommendations on what to buy. It can be found on the bottom right of the Amazon mobile app’s main navigation bar.
Ahead of its recent launch, Rufus was available in beta only to select U.S. customers within the Amazon mobile app. Now, after testing the chatbot across “tens of millions of questions,” Amazon has opened it up for all shoppers across the U.S.
First announced in February, the AI chatbot has been trained on Amazon’s product catalog, customer reviews, community Q&As, and other public information found around the web.
Rufus is powered by an internal large language model (LLM) specialized for shopping. It allows customers to ask questions about products, including things like factors to consider when buying, product comparisons, or how well the product holds up.
Amazon states that Rufus understands more than just products. For instance, when a customer asked about a pool umbrella for Florida, Rufus shared facts about Florida’s weather, humidity, and more.
In addition, Rufus helped customers stay updated about fashion trends or the latest technology. It also served as an assistant to beta customers and helped them find their past orders and learn about the status of current orders.
To access Rufus, U.S. customers will need to be on the latest version of the Amazon Shopping app.
