Amazon is piloting a new AI feature that delivers short-form audio product summaries, offering customers a hands-free, conversational way to learn about products, the company announced on May 21.

Dubbed “AI-powered shopping experts”, the audio clips highlight key product features, summarize customer reviews and incorporate information from across the web. Shoppers can tap a “Hear the highlights” button in the Amazon Shopping app to listen to the summaries.

Currently available on select product pages for some U.S. users, the feature is aimed at products that typically involve more consideration before purchase. Amazon says the tool is designed to make product research quicker and more engaging, especially for customers who are multitasking.

The summaries are generated by large language models (LLMs), which craft scripts from reviews and online content before converting them into short audio formats. Amazon plans to expand the feature to more products and users in the coming months.
