Amazon is expanding its partnership with Anthropic through a major investment and long-term infrastructure agreement aimed at scaling advanced AI development.

As part of the deal, Amazon will invest $5 billion immediately, with the potential to commit up to an additional $20 billion tied to future milestones. The move builds on the companies’ existing collaboration, which began in 2023.

Anthropic has also committed to spending more than $100 billion over the next decade on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, including the use of Amazon’s Trainium chips and Graviton processors. The agreement secures up to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity to train and run Anthropic’s AI models.

The collaboration will further integrate Anthropic’s Claude platform into AWS, allowing customers to access its full developer environment directly within their AWS accounts.

“Our custom AI silicon offers high performance at significantly lower cost for customers, which is why it’s in such hot demand,” said Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon. “Anthropic’s commitment to run its large language models on AWS Trainium for the next decade reflects the progress we’ve made together on custom silicon as we continue delivering the technology and infrastructure our customers need to build with generative AI.”

“Our users tell us Claude is increasingly essential to how they work, and we need to build the infrastructure to keep pace with rapidly growing demand,” said Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic. “Our collaboration with Amazon will allow us to continue advancing AI research while delivering Claude to our customers, including the more than 100,000 building on AWS.”

The partnership also includes expansion of global AI services, particularly in Asia and Europe, as demand for generative AI tools continues to rise.
