The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada has initiated a pilot program called Advanced Intersection Analytics to assess how technology could help understand traffic patterns and safety issues in the Las Vegas Valley.

This initiative leverages AI, predictive analytics, historical data, cameras, and sensors to gather crucial data at high-risk intersections across the valley. RTC will partner with various jurisdictions and police departments for the pilot program.

Further, the program aims to collect and analyze traffic data, pinpointing safety issues such as red-light running violations, vehicles straying from their lanes, and pedestrians disregarding traffic signals or neglecting crosswalks.

By harnessing the power of AI, the RTC hopes to gain a deeper understanding of traffic patterns and identify effective solutions to mitigate these hazards.

This collaborative effort between the RTC and its Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation system is expected to significantly improve traffic safety and efficiency in the Las Vegas Valley.

“There’s a lot of technology that continues to improve the way we manage our roadways,” says RTC CEO MJ Maynard, as per Las Vegas Review-Journal

“It allows us to not only look at this from an enforcement perspective, but maybe also an opportunity to make an engineering change,” adds Maynard.
