For years, the AI conversation was driven by possibility. What could models do? Which tasks could be automated? How quickly would the technology improve?

Now, the harder questions have arrived.

For chief data, analytics and AI leaders, artificial intelligence is no longer an innovation program running at the edges of the organization. It is becoming a strategic capability with consequences for operating models, workforce design, intellectual property, security, governance and growth. The conversation has shifted from whether AI will transform business to who will shape the terms of that transformation.

That is the context for World Summit AI’s tenth anniversary edition, taking place in Amsterdam on October 7–8, 2026. The event arrives at a moment when the industry is being asked to move beyond spectacular demonstrations and confront a more difficult task: building AI that is useful, trusted, resilient and accountable.

Why Enterprise AI Strategy Has Become a C-Suite Priority

The pressure on leaders is mounting from every direction. Boards want a credible answer to the question of AI value. Employees want clarity on how work will change. Regulators expect robust governance. Customers expect greater intelligence without a compromise on trust.

Meanwhile, the technical landscape is moving quickly. Foundation models are proliferating, agents are making the leap from concept to workflow, and infrastructure decisions increasingly determine an organization’s AI economics and strategic independence. The result is a new kind of leadership challenge: one that requires fluency across technology, data, risk, product and people.

World Summit AI’s 2026 program reflects that reality. Its central theme, “Shaping the New AI Paradigm,” brings together the technological, economic, societal and ethical questions that now sit behind every serious AI strategy.

The agenda moves deliberately between the big picture and the operational detail. Enterprise leaders can explore practical deployment through the ADOPT AI track and 40+ workshops; technical teams can examine how systems and applications are being built; policymakers and business decision-makers can engage with the growing imperative around AI sovereignty; and researchers, founders and investors bring an unvarnished view of where capability is heading next.

The AI Leaders, Researchers and Policymakers Defining Enterprise Adoption

The most valuable AI conversations increasingly happen where disciplines collide.

That is why a program combining scientists, executives, policymakers, technologists and investors matters. A model can be technically impressive and commercially irrelevant. An AI strategy can be ambitious but impossible to govern. A deployment can reduce costs in one part of a business while introducing risk somewhere else.

The 2026 speaker lineup reflects the breadth of the challenge. Daphne Koller, Founder and CEO of Insitro and Co-founder of Coursera, brings expertise across AI, education and AI-driven drug discovery. Zico Kolter, OpenAI Board member, Chief Scientist at Gray Swan AI and a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, brings the safety and robustness agenda into focus.

They are joined by leaders working at the interfaces that will define adoption: Audrey Tang, Taiwan’s Cyber Ambassador and former Digital Minister; Marietje Schaake, fellow at Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and former MEP; and Anu Talus, Chair of the European Data Protection Board. Their inclusion signals that the future of AI will be shaped not simply by what is technically possible, but by the public rules, democratic institutions and governance choices surrounding it.

For CDOs in particular, there is also a strong enterprise perspective. Diana Schildhouse, Chief Data & Analytics Officer at Colgate-Palmolive; Una Madigan Shortt, Global Chief Data Officer at Schneider Electric; Xavier Amatriain, Chief AI & Data Officer at Expedia Group; and Nitzan Mekel-Bobrov, Chief AI Officer at eBay, represent leaders accountable for translating AI ambition into organization-wide value.

Enterprise AI Governance, Data Strategy and AI ROI: The Questions Leaders Must Answer

The tenth edition of World Summit AI is not a celebration of AI for its own sake. It is a forum for those navigating the trade-offs that define responsible, scalable adoption.

For data and AI leaders, the questions are increasingly concrete:

  • How do you create measurable value without allowing experimentation to become uncontrolled sprawl?
  • What data, platform and talent foundations are required before AI can scale reliably?
  • When should an organization build, buy, partner or adopt open-weight models?
  • How can governance enable innovation rather than become a late-stage compliance exercise?
  • What does AI sovereignty mean when critical models, compute and cloud infrastructure sit outside an organization’s direct control?
  • How do leaders maintain customer trust as AI systems become more autonomous and embedded in decision-making?

These are not questions with a single right answer. They require exposure to different viewpoints: the researcher testing the frontier, the policymaker setting boundaries, the entrepreneur building the tools and the executive accountable for outcomes.

That is what makes the summit’s anniversary timely. Ten years after World Summit AI began convening the global AI community, the sector has entered a phase where leadership judgment matters as much as raw technical progress. The summit now brings together more than 300 speakers, ten program tracks, 10,000-plus attendees and over 100 exhibitors across the AI ecosystem.

What the Next Decade of Enterprise AI Will Demand from Chief Data Officers

AI’s next decade will not be defined by a single breakthrough, company or model release. It will be defined by the choices organizations make about where to deploy intelligence, how to govern it and whose interests it serves.

The new AI paradigm will be shaped by human intention as much as machine capability. For the leaders responsible for making that intention real, Amsterdam is where the next conversation begins.
