Last year, after Lexi Kilgore got engaged to Tyler Edwards, her father gave her advice that she took to heart.
“It’s not about the sparkle and the glitter,” he said. “What matters is the covenant between you two.”
The pair had planned to marry on June 26, 2020, at the Monastery Event Center, but the coronavirus derailed those plans. So, they had to concoct a Plan B — to postpone the wedding until next summer. Then Tyler, who works in sales at ConstructConnect, proposed a Plan C.
“Tyler didn’t want to wait a whole year to marry me, so he suggested we also hold a small ceremony this summer,” says Lexi. This included Lexi’s parents, Brian and Karen Kilgore; Tyler’s parents, Rob and Cindy Edwards; Maid of Honor Madison Taylor Kilgore (Lexi’s sister); and Cody Hundley (Tyler’s best friend); among two dozen others. Since the couple got engaged in Ault Park, they thought they could have the wedding there, but a music festival threw a wrench into those plans. Ultimately, they chose to tie the knot at 6:30 p.m. on July 16 at Peterloon, a beautiful estate in Indian Hill.
“It was a quaint, quiet, secluded garden area that was just perfect!” says Lexi, who works as a second-grade teacher at Riverview Elementary.
The idea of a small shindig didn’t initially thrill the bride because she had envisioned an elaborate celebration with all the trimmings. In the end, however, the day exceeded her expectations in every way. For one thing, because they invited just immediate family and the bridal party, a lot of the pressures of a typical wedding melted away.
“I remember every detail of our elopement — that’s what we like to call it,” Lexi says. “I remember every word Tyler and I said during our vows and how emotional we both got. I also recall looking around and seeing everyone’s faces. I’m getting chills just thinking about it! I’m so grateful to have those vivid memories.”
Minister Paul Taylor presided over the ceremony. Dillon Briscoe provided the music with Madison Taylor Kilgore on vocals. Staci Hundley did hair and makeup, and Malorie James with Malorie Gwyn Photography took pictures. Dress by Carrie Karibo Bridal, flowers by Robin Wood Flowers, and cake by The BonBonerie. Event planner Jamie Rogers made the day run smoothly.
Following the ceremony, the couple invited their 35 guests to join them at Bishop’s Quarter in Loveland for appetizers and champaign. “It was not what we expected, but we are so glad this is our story,” says Lexi, who is still looking forward to their big celebration next year on their one-year anniversary. “We got our intimate special moment, and next year we’ll do it again on a bigger scale!”
