Anthony Spiteri, CTO, Battleface: Our Niche for High-Risk Travelers Assisted us in Branching Out and Becoming Profitable

(US and Canada) Jordan Kirk, Client Director, AHEAD, speaks with Anthony Spiteri, CTO, Battleface, about the InsureTech company Battleface's specialization in the travel insurance space, and how they began their journey with niche products like insurance for high-risk travelers, which remained under-served for some time, and how they are now in the regular travel insurance space as well. They provide modular insurance, which means they provide packages that may be customized based on what the customer needs and what they want to be insured for. As a result, you are no longer over-protected as a traveler.

Spiteri is the founding CTO of Battleface. Since he has been a part of the organization ever since its inception, he has gone through various stages while building the product and has grown from a handful of engineers to a global team.

Spiteri discusses his relocation from Malta to Columbus and his admiration for the Ohio tech sector. He explains how, despite being in the tourism sector, which was severely impacted by the epidemic, they stayed steady due to their niche product for high-risk tourists. As a result, they are one of the few travel insurance businesses in Europe and the United Kingdom that can provide travelers with COVID coverage.

They offered tourists the ability to travel during COVID and utilize their insurance during that time, because many other traditional businesses had a lot of caveats. As a result, they were just able to spin off and prosper. They like to brag a little about how, as an organization, they gave people the opportunity to travel and provided them with value during the pandemic.
