U.S. Department of State Promotes Laura Williams to Director of Analytics

(US and Canada) Laura Williams has been promoted to Director of Analytics at the U.S. Department of State from her previous role as Deputy Director for Bilateral Affairs, International Communications & Information Policy.

As Director of Analytics, Williams will be at the Department’s Center for Analytics, where she will take the lead in empowering data-informed diplomacy. She will build the Department’s capacity to leverage data as a strategic asset so that employees at all levels can make data-driven decisions, level-up policy-making approaches, and solve complex problems. Her mission is to improve data culture, management, and analytics usage throughout the Department.

Williams has over 20 years of experience in the Department. She previously worked as a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist. She kept the Department of State's sensitive data secure, harnessed innovative technology to amplify the Department's mission, managed crises, and kept leaders connected to the information they needed. She has also led TechCamps to strengthen Civil Society organizations and women entrepreneurs in Latin America, fostered data literacy for diplomats and staff, and advocated for greater use of knowledge management and collaboration technology to connect Department employees with each other and the information they need.

An experienced leader, Williams has led teams shaping international tech policy to promote economic growth. She was previously assigned to American Embassies in Nicosia, Algiers, Rome, and Mexico City and was given various assignments at the Department’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
