VIDEO | Three Arc Advisory Principal: I’d Engage Legal and Privacy Teams Before Using ChatGPT

(US and Canada) Meghan Anzelc, Principal at Three Arc Advisory, speaks with Asha Saxena, Founder and CEO of WLDA.tech, in an International Women’s Month special video interview about the application of artificial intelligence in health and education, and the issue of data and IP ownership while integrating AI tools like ChatGPT.

Using AI tools like Chat GPT in business requires paying attention to the terms of use because they vary by application and tool, Saxena says. She also highlights a couple of important points from those terms. They are:

  • Suppose you are not using Open AI's API but just the user-generated prompt information. In that case, your data can be used to train the models further unless you explicitly opt out using the opt-out form on the OpenAi website. So, make sure you are not using trade secrets or proprietary business information.
  • According to OpenAI, the user is responsible for ensuring that appropriate privacy and consent policies and processes are in place when they use personal information in their interaction with the OpenAI suite of tools.

Additionally, Anzelc suggests organizations engage their legal and privacy teams before integrating Chat GPT into business processes. As far as data ownership is concerned, it still belongs to the user. As a result, it's less about intellectual property — it's more about privacy and allowing the data used to be added to the training data to improve the models.
