VIDEO | Solidatus, Co-CEO and Co-Founder: Regulation Is Our Responsibility

(US and Canada) Philip Dutton, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Solidatus, speaks with Baz Khuti, President US at Modak, about data regulations, their impact on different industries, and the responsibility of organizations.

Dutton says that while big organizations understand how to deal with regulation due to experience, the real challenge is for organizations that are just moving data into the cloud and haven't had to deal with regulation. Beyond that, this obligation is not to one regulation like GDPR, but it could be 20 regulations around data privacy depending on where they operate.

He mentions that regulators now understand that the same set of controls that they have on on-prem infrastructure also need to be applied to the cloud account. And, due to the regional variations in regulation, cross-border data sharing is now a major problem for global multinationals.

In his view, the industries that are seeing the next wave of regulation are online retailers and manufacturers with the US, the UK, and Europe leading it. Dutton also points out that the diversity in the APAC region is a big challenge for regulators and organizations.

Dutton, however, maintains that it is important for organizations to focus on the positives and take it as a responsibility. It should be something that they want to do and not something they are forced to do.

Speaking about Solidatus, he says that the product was designed to be easily deployable both on-prem and in the cloud, whether private or public.

Dutton acknowledges that the clients’ tech stack and cloud strategy can be different, and affirms that Solidatus is flexible enough to respond to client needs without needing to make changes. The idea is to remove the barriers and enable clients, he concludes.
