EU Ambassador Keynotes European American Chamber of Commerce Annual Gala

(May 16, 2018 – Cincinnati)  Ambassador of the European Union to the United States David O’Sullivan was the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker at the European American Chamber of Commerce (EACC) Annual Gala Dinner at the Drees Pavilion on Wednesday, May 16. Nearly 300 guests listened to the Ambassador underscore the importance of America and Europe standing together to defend our shared values of freedom and democracy. He pointed out that America’s investments of blood and treasure in two world wars have not been squandered by Europeans, but have generated the largest trading and investment relationship in the world – Europe is the top export destination for 44 out of 50 U.S. states, and 78 percent of the global foreign direct investment is held between the U.S. and Europe.

Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP was the Presenting Sponsor for the event, and Dixon Miller, a partner at the law firm, introduced the Ambassador, who also participated in a lively Q&A session after his presentation (moderated by EACC Board President Doug Moormann of Development Strategies Group LLC). The event kicked off with lovely renditions of the EU and U.S. anthems performed by Rachel Brown from Miami University and Patrick Grimone from the University of Cincinnati. Jeff Thomas Catering provided a wonderful pan-European menu, including Guinness and Onion soup in honor of the Ambassador’s Irish heritage. Following dinner and the Ambassador’s presentation, he was presented with a mayoral proclamation declaring May 16 as "Ambassador David O’Sullivan Day" in the City of Cincinnati before Safran Landing Systems CEO and General Manager Philippe Garnier – the evening’s Dessert Sponsor – invited guests to mix and mingle with coffee, liqueurs, and sweets on the Pavilion terrace while enjoying the spectacular Cincinnati Skyline.

The European American Chamber of Commerce was founded in 2007 and works to stimulate business and networking relations between the Cincinnati Tri-State region and Europe. Some 200 European companies have operations across the Greater Cincinnati region, providing over 32,000 jobs. To learn more about the EACC, please visit www.europe-cincinnati.com.
