Building on Tradition of Community Service to Help Hurricane Victims

With more than 50 years of service to the Greater Cincinnati business community, Lang Financial Group has long helped businesses and individuals find the right benefits packages for their needs.

It’s a valuable service. Lang’s work helping clients choose the right health insurance, 401(k) or financial plan or policies provides security and peace of mind. Lang consultants, however, don’t limit their service to their corporate work. They’re just as eager to provide hands-on assistance to those in need.

"Our mission is to make a difference in the communities that we serve. Caring about people, especially the less fortunate, is a core value reflected in our commitment to serving those in need," says Steve McAbee, president of Lang Financial Group. In addition to financially supporting the efforts for disaster relief, Lang Financial also had several employees and their families who traveled to Texas and Florida in August and September to provide hands-on assistance to victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

Lang contributors included:

• Butch Elfers, CFP®, CPA, AIF®, Lang’s director of qualified plans, visited Rockport, Texas, to help those affected. He joined the team from Matthew 25: Ministries and Procter & Gamble’s Tide Loads of Hope to pass out desperately needed supplies and provide clean clothing for families in the midst of chaos. He is continuing to support M25M with fundraising efforts for disaster relief.

• Jake Roehm, an employee benefits specialist, spent five days in Katy, Texas, with Samaritan’s Purse, helping area residents clean up and rebuild.

• Madonna DeChristopher, spouse of Garry DeChristopher,

Director of IT, spent close to a month in Texas and Florida treating sick and injured residents.

"In times of tragedy, we see the best from people as they come together to help each other," McAbee wrote in a letter to clients and employees. "It will be a long road to recovery for many of these communities and they will still need help long after the headlines disappear. We have heard from many of you questioning how you can help offer support and make a contribution to those in need. We encourage you to consider a donation to Matthew 25: Ministries, Samaritan’s Purse or the Red Cross to help those impacted."

The post-hurricane work builds Lang Financial Group’s tradition of community involvement in Greater Cincinnati. The company and individual employees work closely with organizations like United Way, Matthew 25: Ministries, Rotary International and the Patriot Charities. In addition, Lang is a premier sponsor for the Hunger 5K Run/Walk, Saturday, November 4, with proceeds going to benefit Matthew 25: Ministries’ work with poverty-stricken communities in Cincinnati, the U.S., and the world.

Other charitable works include a company blood drive and ongoing participation in Repair Affair and Prepare Affair, two one-day events in which hundreds of volunteers visit houses to provide low-income, elderly and disabled individuals with home repairs and modifications. People Working Cooperatively, a local nonprofit formed to provide such services to low-income homeowners, organizes the volunteer events.
